Brought up on clay - key to top 50 success

Andy Murray has said, when talking about his chances of success on the clay courts of Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome and Roland Garros: those guys (Nadal, Feder, Djokovic, Del Potro, Ferrer, Gonzalez, Mathieu, Verdasco) have the advantage because they were brought up on clay.

The same can be said for many of the top females (Sharapova, Petrova, Pavlyuchenkova, Kvitova), and past champions like Justine HeninDinara Safina, Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis, Martina Navratilova and Kim Clisters.

PTF Clay Court Academy is a purpose-built private training environment to take talented 8 to 13 year old junior tennis players and equip them with lasting skills and the education that they need in order to make it on the world stage.

In this crucial age-group, it is essential that children receive the right amount of specialist on-court time and quality education, as well as the encouragement and conditions to enable them to succeed.  No other training academy has developed a programme that caters specifically to these young players’ needs.

We combine top-class schooling at a leading English private boarding school, with a specialised clay court tennis training regime led by Andrew Fisher, who has worked with world-class junior players all over the world, notably Andy Murray and Heather Watson.

PTF Clay - our specialism for success

We specialise in developing talented junior players from the Russian Federation and other countries in Eastern Europe, since in very few other countries do children start tennis early enough, have the right physical ability or determination for their long-term success.

A key aspect of the Academy is the training surface that we selected for our courts. This is designed to simulate clay court tennis, whilst retaining a low-impact training surface that is sympathetic to young bodies. In this way, Students learn to choose their shots and construct their points with stamina and endurance, but without having to endure the physical strain of hard court tennis that is so damaging to players at this age.
