Academy - Education

Ellesmere College BuildingsBrendan WignallBrendan Wignall, - Ellesmere College's Headmaster, views their association with PTF Clay Academy  as a mutual benefit to their own school tennis, other sports and education for PTF Clay's Students. Ellesmere College is an independent, co-educational, day and boarding school for 7-18 year olds,  just 4 miles from Petton. It is well known as a very good school, with many strengths, the pupils are happy, and there are high standards of achievement across a broad spectrum of academic, creative and performing arts, and sporting activities.

At age 8 - 13, it is vital that Students focus as much on their education as on their tennis.  PTF Clay Court Academy works with Ellesmere College a nearby boarding school that specialises in preparing children with the education and “critical thinking” needed to enter its Upper School or England’s top selective secondary schools (including Eton, Harrow and Cheltenham Ladies College), which in turn serve as the recruiting ground for the best Universities.

All Academy Students enrol and attend at Ellesmere College which provides full boarding accommodation, education and pastoral care, as well as sponsorship for their student visa applications.  Ellesmere is a very good school, with happy students receiving an excellent education.  The school works closely with PTF Clay Court Academy to ensure that Students’ academic progress is not adversely affected by the Academy’s training programme, whilst respecting these young athletes’ tennis needs and aspirations.

Just as PTF Clay Court Academy aims to equip Students with the fundamentals for a professional tennis career on and off-court, Ellesmere College will help provide them with the basics to make an impact as sports stars and personalities of the future – a key element for any successful player.

An education at Ellesmere College also provides a basis for any Students who leave the Academy aged 13, but who wish to focus more on academic achievements, to integrate fully into the English schooling system and to bypass the disadvantages that prevent many non-UK students from getting into the best English or US educational institutions.
